Licence photos are valid for 10 years. If you need a new photograph for your driver’s licence or permit, you must renew your licence in person.
Who is this for
People who require a new photograph to renew their licence or permit.
What you need
Your current driver's licence or evidence of identity.
If renewing at a Service SA customer service centre you can apply using the renewal form posted to you, or you can download and complete an application form (127.4 KB PDF) to take with you to Service SA.
If you choose to attend another photo point location you must take the renewal form you received in the post.
If you cannot attend in person due to extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a licence photo extension.
Cost
See the fees page for driver’s licence and permit fees
What happens next
When you pay you'll be given a temporary licence or permit. This is valid for a period of one calendar month or until you receive it in the mail, whichever is earlier.
If you have the mySAGOV app, you can access a digital version of your licence or permit instantly. Digital passes and licences displayed in the mySAGOV app are an electronic form of your existing physical licence.
If you have not received the new licence or permit within 21 days phone Service SA on 13 10 84. If you don't contact Service SA within 30 days of renewing, you may need to pay a replacement fee.
