You'll need to renew your driver's licence in person and have a new photo taken if:
- your last photo was taken more than 10 years ago
- you're trying to renew your licence for longer than your photo is valid.
Take your current licence and the renewal form posted to you to a Service SA centre. If you don't have the renewal form, you can download and complete an application form (237.2 KB PDF) to take with you to Service SA.
If you cannot attend in person due to extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a licence photo extension.
If you don't need a new photograph, you can renew your licence online.
Calculate renewal fee
A licence re-establishment fee of $31 will apply if the licence has expired for more than 6 months.
There is no additional fee to have a photo taken.
What happens next
You should receive your new photo licence in the post within 3 weeks.
When you pay, you'll be given a temporary licence.
If you don't receive the new licence within 3 weeks, phone Service SA on 13 10 84. If you don't contact Service SA within 30 days you may need to pay a replacement licence fee.
