Downgrade a driver's licence

When you no longer need a class of licence other than a car, you can downgrade your licence by having any additional classes removed.

If you're 70 or older and have been asked to submit a certificate of fitness because you hold a class of licence other than a car - eg motorcycle or heavy vehicle, you may decide to remove those additional classes.

When you do so, you will only be required to submit the certificate of fitness if you already have a medical condition recorded on your licence.

1. Complete the form

Application to replace a licence (127.4 KB PDF)

On the form, tick Replacement. You'll need to specify in the declaration that you wish to downgrade your licence and what class we should downgrade it to.

The replacement licence fee of $20 will be waived if you are downgrading your licence due to a medical record or practical driving assessment.

2. Submit the form

In person

Submit the form with your photo licence in person to a Service SA centre.
