What happens next

You should receive your renewed photo licence in the post within three weeks.

When you renew online, you can print a temporary licence or download a digital version of your licence instantly through the mySA GOV app.

Digital passes and licences displayed in the mySA GOV app are an electronic form of your existing physical licence.

If you have not received the new licence within 21 days phone Service SA on 13 10 84. If you don't contact Service SA within 30 days of renewing your licence you may need to pay a replacement licence fee.

Other ways to pay

If you don't need a new photograph you can renew your licence:

  • In person - complete the renewal form sent to you in the post and take it to a photo point location. You can pay by cash, money order, Visa/Mastercard credit or debit card.
If you renew in person, you will be given a temporary licence. A temporary licence is valid for a period of one calendar month or until you get the photo licence in the mail, whichever is earlier.
  • By post - send your completed application with payment by cheque, money order, Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card to:
    Service SA
    GPO Box 1533
    Adelaide SA 5001

If renewing by post, send your completed application as soon as possible to allow enough time for postage and processing.

Reasons you can't renew online

Online renewal may not be available in some circumstances.

  • If you tell us you have a medical condition or disability that affects your ability to drive, you will need to provide a medical certificate confirming your fitness to drive before your licence can be renewed.
  • If you tell us you now need glasses when driving, the condition needs to be recorded on your licence.
  • If you tell us you don't need glasses (when previously you did) you will need to take an eye test to have this condition removed from your licence.
  • If your last licence photograph was taken more than 10 years ago, or you're trying to renew longer than your photo is valid.

Call Service SA on 13 10 84 for advice on renewing your licence.

If you tell us you are disqualified, suspended or otherwise prevented from holding or obtaining a driver's licence, you will not be able to renew your licence.
