Downgrade your driver's licence

When you no longer need a class of licence other than a car, you can downgrade your licence by having any additional classes removed.

If you're 70 or older

If you're 70 or older and have been asked to submit a certificate of fitness because you hold a class of licence other than a car — eg heavy vehicle or motorbike — you may decide to remove those additional classes.

If you do, you'll only be required to submit your certificate of fitness form if you already have a medical condition recorded.

  1. Step 1

    Complete the form

Download and print the form, or get one from a Service SA centre.

Application to replace a licence (214.1 KB PDF)

    On the form:

    • tick Replacement
    • specify in the declaration that you wish to downgrade your licence and what class we should downgrade it to.

The $20 replacement licence fee will be waived if you're downgrading your licence due to a medical record or practical driving assessment.

  2. Step 2

    Submit the form

    In person

Submit the form with your photo licence in person to a Service SA centre.

    Post

Post the form with your photo licence to:

    Service SA
    GPO Box 1533
    Adelaide SA 5001
