Transfer boat registration

When you buy a currently-registered boat, you must register it in your name within 14 days.

What you'll need

To transfer the remaining period of registration, the seller will need to provide the registration certificate to the new owner. This must be signed by both the seller and the new owner.

Unregistered boats

If you buy a boat that is unregistered, you will need to apply for a new owner re-registration (244.0 KB PDF).

If your boat has been never been registered you will need to register it for recreational use in South Australia.

Cost

A transfer fee of $19 applies.

How to apply

Lodge the signed registration certificate at Service SA and pay the transfer fee.
