When you sell a boat, you can submit a notice of disposal (NOD) to Service SA. There's no fee to submit a NOD.
Submit online
You can submit a notice of disposal online if the buyer is from South Australia.
Log into your mySAGOV account using your web browser (not the mySAGOV app). Select 'Start now' below to begin.
You'll need the:
- details of the sale — date and time of sale and selling price
- buyer's SA driver's licence or client number
- buyer's first name and last name or organisation name.
If you can't submit your NOD online
If you've sold the boat to an interstate buyer or don't have all the info to complete your NOD online, you'll need to submit a paper NOD to Service SA instead — see other ways to submit a NOD
What a NOD does
- Notifies Service SA that you no longer own the boat, even if it was gifted.
- It may protect you from having a boat re-registered in your name.
Important: A NOD does not transfer the registration. If the buyer is from SA, the boat remains in your name until they complete the transfer and pay the required fees.
What happens next
If the buyer is from SA, they must transfer the registration into their name within 14 days of purchase and pay the required fees. The boat will remain in your name until the buyer completes the transfer.
If the boat has been sold to an interstate buyer, Service SA's system will continue to record you as the last registered owner in SA.
