When you buy a boat you must ensure it meets compliance standards before it is registered.
You must register the boat in your name within 14 days.
Make sure your boat is compliant
- Registration numbers must be displayed correctly.
- Most recreational boats must have an Australian Builders Plate fitted by the manufacturer.
- All boats registered in SA must have a Hull Identification Number (HIN). Check if you need to get a HIN check.
- Navigation lights must be fitted if you operate your boat at night. If you have lights fitted, they must meet the legal requirements whether you use them or not.
