Commemorative certificates

    Consumer and Business Services (CBS) offer commemorative certificates, designed to celebrate life events such as a marriage, the birth of a child or the registration of a relationship. The commemorative package includes:

    • a commemorative certificate - for display
    • an official certificate - used to prove identity.

    Commemorative certificates don’t have security features so they may not be accepted as proof of identity.

    Who can apply

    People can apply for their own birth, marriage or relationship certificate.

    Parents can also apply for their child's birth certificate if their child is less than 18 years old. Showing proof of ID isn’t needed if the Birth Registration Statement is included with the application.

    Other applicants

    All other people applying for a certificate should check that they can access the record and what proof of ID is needed.

    You can pay with a credit card.

    Paying for your certificate

    You can pay for your certificate by post using a cheque, money order or credit card.

    Cheques should be made payable to Births, Deaths and Marriages.

    Birth Certificate – Blue gradient fading to white at the top, with a stripe of gumleaves across the bottom. It has a decorative script title and a South Australian government seal.     Australian pink

    Blue giraffe

    Birth Certificate - pink and white floral patterned background with lowercase title and a cartoon style giraffe and elephant on it.     Peach giraffe

    Birth Certificate – White certificate with a blue ribboned border with some very small stars along the border. There is a large bunny plush toy picture on the top right and a smaller bunny on the bottom left The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Blue bunny

    Birth Certificate – White certificate with a pink ribboned border with some very small stars along the border. There is a large pink bunny plush toy picture on the top right and a smaller bunny on the bottom left. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Pink bunny

    Birth Certificate – Australiana design certificate with a border of Australian birds and animals, including a kangaroo, koala, wombat and an echidna. Birds include a kookaburra, black swan, rosella and a Willy-wagtail. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Fauna

    Birth Certificate – Australiana style with Australian native flowers as a border, including Sturt desert pea, pink heath, wattle, flannel flowers and bottlebrush. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Flora

    Birth Certificate – Australiana design certificate with a border of Australian birds and animals, including a kangaroo, koala, wombat and an echidna. Birds include a kookaburra, black swan, rosella and a Willy-wagtail. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Blue rabbit

    Birth Certificate – Pink border with spots and pink and red bunting in the left hand top corner. There are cartoon style pink bunnies in the top right and bottom left corners. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Pink rabbit

    Birth Certificate – Soft green with bamboo design on each side. There is a large panda on the left-hand side and a smaller panda on the bottom tight corner. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Panda

    Birth Certificate – Light brown background with a thin brown border. There are two teddy bears sitting back-to-back at the top and a small teddy bear at the bottom. The information on the certificate includes name of the child, sex, place of birth. Names and age of the parents. The Registration number and the date of the birth.

    Bear

    Marriage certificate designs

    Marriage Certificate – Blossom branches top left and bottom right corners. The certificate title is in decorative script. Information on the certificate includes the names of the bride and groom, their dates and places of birth and the date of the wedding.

    Cherry blossom

    Marriage Certificate – Cherry blossom design in each top corner and down the left hand side. The words Marriage Certificate are written in a decorative script. Information on the certificate includes the names of the bride and groom, their dates and places of birth and the date of the wedding.

    Blossom

    Marriage Certificate – a red love heart made up of the letters in the word marriage in the centre at the top. Below that the words Marriage Certificate in uppercase of varying size. Information on the certificate includes the names of the bride and groom, their dates and places of birth and the date of the wedding.

    Relationship certificate designs

    Relationship Certificate – Blossom branches top left and bottom right corners. The certificate title Relationship Register is in decorative script. Information on the certificate includes the parties names, their dates and places of birth and the date the relationship was registered.

    What happens next

    Processing times for certificates can vary. Use the estimator on the CBS website to work out how long it will take to get your certificate. Remember to add time for the postal delivery.
