Consumer and Business Services (CBS) offer commemorative certificates, designed to celebrate life events such as a marriage or a birth of a child. The commemorative package includes:
- commemorative certificate - for display
- official certificate - used to prove identity.
Commemorative certificates don’t have security features so organisations may not accept them as proof of identity.
Who can apply
People can apply for their own birth or marriage certificate. Parents can also apply for their child's birth certificate if their child is less than 18 years old. Showing proof of ID isn’t needed if the Birth Registration Statement is included with the application.
All other people applying for a certificate should check that they can access the record and what proof of ID is needed.
Paying for your certificate
You can pay for your certificate:
- in person - cash, cheque, money order, credit/debit card
- by post - cheque, money order, credit card
- online - credit card.
Cheques should be made payable to Births, Deaths and Marriages.
