A registered NDIS provider can only employ a person in a risk-assessed role if they have verified that the person has an NDIS Worker Check clearance.

We’ve identified a technical issue affecting some NDIS Worker Check renewal applications.

NDIS workers who submit a renewal application before their current clearance expires are entitled to an extension if their clearance expires before the Screening Unit finalises the renewal application. In some cases, this extension has not been applied correctly, resulting in the NDIS Worker Screening Database (NWSD) showing the worker’s clearance as expired.

We are working to resolve this issue.

In the interim, employers can verify a worker’s eligibility to work in a risk-assessed role through the NWSD Portal. Where the ‘Eligible to work’ field displays ‘Yes’, the worker remains eligible to work in a risk-assessed role, even if their clearance is shown as expired.

If the ‘Eligible to work’ field displays ‘No’, the worker is not eligible to work in a risk-assessed role.

Verify an employee has a check

NDIS providers and self-managed participants can verify if workers have a check through their NDIS Portal.

To register as an NDIS provider or get access to the NDIS Portal as a self-managed participant or unregistered provider, contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
