When you buy an SA registered vehicle — such as a car, trailer, caravan or motorbike — you must transfer the registration within 14 days. If you don't, you may have to pay a late transfer fee of $108.
There’s a different transfer process if the vehicle is:
- unregistered
- from interstate
- being transferred between married or de facto partners
- being settled as part of a deceased estate.
Transfer online
Log in to mySAGOV account using a browser - not the mobile app. Select Start now.
You'll need the:
- plate number
- seller’s SA driver’s licence or client number
- seller’s last name or organisation name.
Reasons you can't transfer online
Online transfer is not available if:
- you're eligible for a registration concession and would like to apply it to the vehicle – see concessions for registration
- the vehicle has special plates or new number plates are required
- the vehicle is conditionally registered
- it's a heavy vehicle or trailer that is 3 years or older from the date of manufacture and requires a change of ownership inspection
- it’s a trailer or caravan that has never been issued a chassis or vehicle identification number.

You will need to pay:
- a $33 transfer fee
