The Motorbike Licence Assessment involves an instructor observing and assessing your ability to ride safely and effectively.
You must have successfully completed the Motorbike Pre-licence course before you can book the Motorbike Licence Assessment.
How to book
You can book into the course using your mySAGOV account. If you don’t already have a mySAGOV account, you can create a new account.

Assessment sessions
Assessments are available at any time from these locations between 8:00am and 4:00pm, 7 days a week.
The assessment lasts for 75 minutes.
You must arrive on time, otherwise you will not be able to take part in the course and you will be required to rebook. You may also be required to pay for the course in full again.
What to bring
You must bring the following items with you, otherwise you can't sit your assessment and will need to make another booking:
- a fit for purpose, compliant helmet
- current photo identification
- appropriate clothing - long sleeved top, full length pants, enclosed shoes (no sandals, thongs or heels)
- a current motorbike learner's permit.
You may use your own motorbike for your Licence Assessment, as long as it's registered, roadworthy, not modified and on the list of learner-approved motorbikes. It must also have a minimum of a half tank of fuel.
If you don't want to use your own, a motorbike or scooter will be provided. However, certain types and models can't be guaranteed.
What the assessment involves
This is an on-road assessment that will take 75 minutes to complete.
During the assessment, you will travel along a set route while the instructor observes.
You will be assessed on your ability to:
- ride a motorbike
- comply with road rules
- interact with other road users safely.
Interpreters
You can ask for an interpreter to be at your course and assessment to provide information and instructions in your preferred language.

What happens next
After successfully completing the assessment, you can apply for your motorbike licence (R-DATE class). You must be 19 years of age or older and have held your motorbike learner's permit for more than 12 months to apply.
