In South Australia, your disability parking permit allows you to park in spaces showing the international symbol of access for people with a disability. The vehicle must be being used to transport the permit holder.
Permit conditions
Some disability parking spaces will have time limits displayed on a sign. If these spaces display a time limit, you must only park for the allowed time.
Permits are only to be used when:
- the vehicle is being used to transport the permit holder
- the vehicle is being used by an organisation providing services (that require transport) to people with a disability
- the permit is displayed so the permit number and expiry date are clearly visible from the exterior of the vehicle.
Hang the permit from the rear vision mirror or display on the passenger side of the dashboard for clear visibility.
Parking concessions
In SA, your disability parking permit allows you to access the following parking concessions where there are no disability parking spaces available or if a sign or meter shows a specific time limit.
Time limited spaces
If you're a permit holder, you can park in time limited parking spaces for longer time periods.
Where you see a parking limit of: | You can park for: |
---|---|
Less than 30 minutes | Maximum 30 minutes |
30 minutes or more, but less than an hour | 2 hours |
More than 1 hour | Twice the period indicated on the sign |
Disability parking space | Indicated time only |
Paid parking spaces
Permit holders can park in metered or ticket parking spaces at no charge in on-street parking areas within Adelaide city or North Adelaide. The time extensions detailed above will be granted. Visit the City of Adelaide website for conditions.
The City of Adelaide also operates the UPark off-street carparks. You can apply for an Accessibility Pass, which entitles you to 2 hours free parking, up to 52 times per year. Visit the UPark website for more information.
Private car parks may charge their own fees. You will need to check the terms and conditions of parking in private car parks.
Interstate disability parking permits
If you're visiting South Australia, you can use your interstate disability parking permit. If you've moved to SA, apply for a disability parking permit in SA.
