Screening checks and use of personal information

When corresponding with the Screening Unit, we will address our clients using their legal name and pronoun declared in the most recent screening application. Information declared within the screening application is confidential and will not be disclosed to employers and third parties, including gender and former legal names.

The Screening Unit uses the information you provide and the information we have access to so that we can assess your application.

We do not disclose any of this information to anyone unless we must to do so in line with a law of the State of South Australia or the Australian Government, a legal instrument or government instruction.

How your information is used

Your information is used to:

  • identify you
  • check your criminal history records and sources of relevant or assessable information, such as Department for Child Protection – if any
  • conduct a risk assessment, if required
  • reassess your suitability to hold a worker screening check if the Screening Unit is notified of new relevant offences or other relevant or assessable information
  • contact you about your application or current worker screening check – for example, when it's time to renew.
