Applicants living outside of Australia

People living outside of Australia can apply for a screening check by completing the online application.

For your application to be processed, you will need to:

  • provide your current (outside of Australia) residential address
  • provide an Australian postal address
  • use the Print and Seek option to verify your identity.

After the application is complete and submitted you will receive an email with an attached PDF copy of your online application.

You'll need to print the application to have your original identity documents, and English translation (if required), sighted and your application signed by an employee of an:

  • Australian High Commission
  • Australian Embassy
  • Australian Consulate

If the country in which you reside does not have an Australian embassy or consulate you can use a Public Notary officer to verify your identity documents.

Once the form is completed and signed, please email a scanned copy to DHSScreeningUnit@sa.gov.au or post the whole application form to:

Accepted identity documents for overseas applicants

Your identity documents must include evidence of your right to enter Australia and work in this country.

Identity documents you can use to support your worker screening application include:

  • Australian visa (confirmation of approval PDF)
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Australian Immicard

and

  • foreign passport (required if using an Australian visa)
  • United Nations Convention Travel Document or equivalent
  • national photo identity card (government issued)
  • foreign driver’s licence
  • birth certificate.

If you've changed your name, you must also give us another document that shows the change, such as a marriage certificate, deed poll or change of name certificate.

If your identity documents don't reflect your preferred gender, you must give us a document that shows your preferred gender. For example, an amended birth certificate or a statement from a registered medical practitioner.

Documents in languages other than English

Where your identity documents aren't written in English, you must:

  • give us a certified copy of the original document
  • arrange for the translation of your documents into English.

Translations must be done by an approved translation service. The translation must also be certified as a true and correct copy by the service.

Contact your nearest Australian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate to find an approved translator in your country.
