When someone lodges an interest in living in a community housing property they are given a primary contact. This is either the organisation they applied through first or they can nominate an organisation.

Primary contact responsibilities

The primary contact organisation will:

  • update a person's information
  • refer customers to other options if they aren't eligible to register for a property
  • manage enquiries
  • return incomplete forms
  • send a Single Housing Register letter, within 7 days of receiving the form, to acknowledge the registration
  • advise people if the primary contact organisation no longer operates.

South Australian Housing Trust is the primary contact for people who express an interest in both community and public housing.

Changes to personal information and circumstances

Contact information can be updated using Housing Connect.

A person's address and phone number can be updated by phone if they can confirm their identity:

  • full name
  • date of birth
  • address and contact details
  • Centrelink number

If the person who is registered wants to change their primary contact organisation, they will need to complete a  change of circumstances form (755.6 KB PDF).

This form can also be used to change:

  • their name
  • their household situation - eg need for housing is more urgent
  • housing providers they're registered with
  • who they live with, their income or assets
  • their support workers or agencies
  • the areas they're registered for

South Australian Housing Trust provides a registration service for smaller community housing providers including volunteer member-tenant managed providers.
