Digital renewal notices

Go paperless and receive registration renewal notices for your vehicle, trailer or motorcycle by email or SMS, instead of by post.

A digital renewal notice is an electronic notification of your registration expiry date. The notice will include your payment number and a link to renew the registration online.

You can access a copy of your paper renewal or registration certificate by logging into your mySAGOV account.

Sign up for digital renewal notices

You need a mySAGOV account to use this service. Create an account if you don't already have one.

You will receive:

  • the first renewal notification 42 days before expiry
  • a reminder within 1 and 7 days of expiry (you can select your preference)
  • an expired notification 1 day after the expiry (if not paid before expiry).

If you don't receive a notification, check your spam or junk folder.

What happens next

Once subscribed, digital notices will apply to all of your vehicles. Paper notices will no longer be sent. If you would like to receive a mixture of digital and paper notices, individual vehicles can be unsubscribed.

Email notices will only be sent to the email address linked to your mySAGOV account. If the vehicle is jointly owned, only the primary contact will receive the renewal notice.

The option to receive notifications by SMS is only available if a verified mobile phone number exists in your mySAGOV account.

Digital renewal notices will not be sent for vehicles on direct debit.
