Switch to email or SMS renewals

Reduce your paper bills and go digital with email or SMS registration renewals.

If you're already receiving digital renewals, there's a different process to manage your details - eg update contact details.

With email or SMS renewals, instead of a paper notice you'll receive:

  • the first notification 42 days before expiry
  • a reminder within 1 and 7 days of expiry (choose your preference)
  • an expired notification 1 day after the expiry (if not paid before expiry).

If you don't receive a notification, check your spam or junk folder.

Set up digital renewals

You'll need a mySAGOV account to use this service.

  1. Log in to your mySAGOV account using your internet browser (not the mySAGOV app). Select Start now below to begin.
  2. Select Sign up for digital renewal notices in the Digital Renewal Notices section.
  3. Choose your notification preferences.
  4. Select Subscribe.

What happens next

Email or SMS notifications will include your payment number and a link to renew the registration online. You'll no longer receive paper renewals in the post.

Generally, email and SMS renewals will apply to all of your vehicles. But you can receive a mixture of digital and paper if you'd like by unsubscribing individual vehicles in your account.

If the vehicle is jointly owned, only the primary contact will receive the digital renewal.

Digital renewals are not sent for vehicles on direct debit, you'll receive a separate notification for that.

Replace registration documents

If you're needing a replacement registration certificate or a copy of your receipt you can download these from your account at any time.

Manage digital renewals

You can manage your notification preferences, update your contact details or unsubscribe at any time.

Update email address

You can update your email address used for your mySAGOV account.

  1. Log in to your mySAGOV account using your internet browser (not the mySAGOV app). Make sure you log in using the current email address linked to your account. Select Start now below to begin.
  2. Select My account.
  3. Select Change email address.
  4. Enter your new email address and click Save.
  5. Select Back to EzyReg Account (located at the top right-hand corner of the screen).
  6. Log out of your account.
  7. To complete the verification, log back in to your mySAGOV account. You will be sent a verification link to your new email address.
  8. Open a new tab and log into your email account.
  9. Open the email from mySAGOV.
  10. Select Verify your email address.

Start now

Once you have verified your new email address, you'll be directed to the home screen in your account. Your new email address should display at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Forgot email

If you're not sure which email address is linked to your mySAGOV account, try resetting the password. Use Forgot password on the login screen.

Enter the email address (you’ll need access to the email address). If you receive an email with a link to reset your password, then an account exists for this address.

Cannot access email

If you no longer have access to the email address linked to your mySAGOV account and don't know your password, you'll need to contact Service SA. You'll need evidence of your identity for us to verify it's really you.

Update mobile number

Depending on how you have chosen for mySAGOV to use your mobile number, you may need to follow both of the processes below to correctly update it.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

If you have 2FA enabled, follow these steps to update your mobile number or change your preferred verification method:

  1. Log in to your mySAGOV account using your internet browser (not the mySAGOV app). Select Start now below to begin.
  2. Select My account.
  3. Select Manage two-factor authentication.
  4. Select Remove.
  5. Select Continue.

Start now

You can now set up 2FA again, this time entering your new mobile number or choosing a different verification method.

If you're having trouble logging in, you can recover your account instead.
