Approval is valid for 1 year.
What you'll need
You'll need to provide:
- evidence of identity
- a certified copy of a National Police Certificate (no older than 3 years)
- details of qualifications and experience with documentary proof.
If applying as a boat code agent, the boat agent's body corporate needs to:
- be associated with the marine industry
- be open to the public at least 5 and a half days a week
- have the necessary tools and equipment eg punches and engravers, for affixing a hull identification number (HIN)
- have access to an area suitable for a boat trailer while affixing HINs.
If applying as a boat code examiner you'll need to:
- be an employee of a boat code agent
- provide the boat code agent id
- provide the boat code examiner number
- have at least 3 years of experience as an approved marine mechanic working as shipwright or boat builder.

What happens next
If your application is approved Marine Safety SA will contact you to arrange payment. You will receive the interim certificates and plates, if applicable, in the mail within 3 weeks of lodgement.
