If you want to take a break from gambling, the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner can put a barring order in place for you.
Complete the form to bar yourself from:
- specific gambling providers
- products or services such as specific pubs and clubs with gaming machines
- specific activities such as betting on racing, sport and lotteries (including online).
Apply online
For help completing the form, contact the CBS barring team on 131 882 (option 0) during business hours.
After the 2 minute application is submitted it may take up to one business day to start with venues.
Being barred from gambling
Gaming machines (pokies)
If you bar yourself from gaming machines at chosen venues for a specific time, re-entering those gaming rooms will mean you're asked to leave because venues have a list of barred individuals.
Venues can withhold your winnings if they identify you're barred from gambling.
A self ban doesn't stop you having a drink or meal at a venue unless you specifically requested a gambling barring from the whole venue. You just can't gamble or enter the gaming room. Most venues have facial recognition technology (FRT) that will alert venue staff if you enter while barred from gambling.
Betting (in-venue, TAB and standalone TAB outlets)
If you are barred from betting this means you are unable to place bets in-venue, TAB and standalone TAB outlets.
Online betting
If you are barred from online betting this means you are unable to place bets with online betting operators who have notified CBS of their intent to operate in South Australia.
You can also exclude yourself through BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register. BetStop allows you to exclude yourself from all licensed online and phone wagering operations in Australia. Register at BetStop.gov.au.
Lotteries
If you are barred from lotteries this means you are unable to get X-Lotto, Keno or instant scratch tickets.
Who will know
If you bar yourself from gambling, your information is protected under the law. Only the gambling providers that you’ve been barred from will have this information.
Your information will not be provided to other government agencies or banks. If you bar yourself from gambling, this will not appear on police checks or immigration checks.
What happens next
You'll need to have your photo taken and undergo an ID check to help venues support your choice of barring.
Online barring applications are submitted to Consumer and Business Services (CBS) and may take up to 1 business day to start with venues.
What you'll need
- your full name
- your address
- your date of birth
- an email address
- a contact number
- a selfie photo (passport style head and shoulders)
- a photo of you holding up your photo ID, such as driver's licence, to verify your identity
- a list of venues you would like to be barred from, or type of gambling, or certain products
- how long you would like to be barred
Changing your mind

You may be asked to provide personal information to support your request such as evidence of counselling or a change in personal circumstances.
If you have voluntarily barred yourself directly through a venue, the barring must remain in place for three months.
If you have barred yourself any other way. the barring must remain in place for 12 months.
These cannot be removed earlier.
Illegal offshore gambling (online casinos and pokies)
CBS cannot bar people from illegal offshore gambling, such as online casinos and online pokies. Complaints about illegal gambling providers can be made online using the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) interactive gambling complaint form.
Changing your mind
