You can request information about a car, trailer, caravan or motorbike from Service SA.
Personal details about current or previous owners will not be provided.
Check registration status - free
You can check if a vehicle is registered in South Australia and get basic details (expiry date, make, CTP insurer) on check a vehicle or boat registration.

Get proof you sold a vehicle or a copy of your disposal notice
If your insurance company or another party needs proof you no longer own the vehicle you can apply for either:
- a Confirmation of Sale letter
- a copy of your notice of disposal (NOD).
It will cost $33.
If you submitted a notice of disposal (NOD) the letter will show the sale date recorded on the NOD and the date you submitted the NOD to Service SA.
If you did not submit a NOD, but the vehicle has been transferred out of your name the letter confirms the date the vehicle was transferred out of your name.
The letter will not include:
- the buyer's details
- details of any number plate changes. If your insurer needs this, you'll need to apply for the letter in person or by phone.
Apply for a Confirmation of Sale letter
- Log in to your mySAGOV account using a browser (not the app).
- Select Start now below to begin.
- Enter the plate number and select Notice of disposal from the Information Service drop down.
- Select Add then Continue.
- Choose to download your letter as a PDF or have it mailed to you, then select Continue.
- Pay the $33 fee.

- Submit to Service SA in person or by phone
- Pay the $33 fee.
Other vehicle information requests
Examples of other vehicle information you can request include confirmation of:
- stamp duty paid on a vehicle
- when number plates were changed
- when a vehicle was first registered in your name.
If the vehicle is registered in your name

- Pay the $33 fee.
Information released will only include details from when you were the registered owner.
If the vehicle is registered to a deceased person
- Provide a will or court order showing authority to act

- Submit to Service SA in person or by phone
- Pay the $33 fee.
If the vehicle is registered to a company
- You must be either:
- the company director, or
- a third party authorised to act on behalf of the company.
- You'll need to provide:
- evidence of the company's Director - find out what documents are accepted
- a letter of authority signed by the Director if you're applying as a third party.
Then:

- Submit to Service SA in person or by phone
- Pay the $33 fee.
