Replace damaged or worn number plates

If one or both of your SA standard issued number plates are damaged or worn, you can order replacement plates online. You'll keep the same plate number as your previous set.

There's a different process if your plates are lost or stolen.

Replace online

To order online you'll need your:

  • licence or client number
  • plate number.

Fee: $34

What happens next

Once your number plates have been ordered you can continue to drive your vehicle, but you must keep the receipt with you when driving.

Replacement number plates can be collected from your chosen Service SA centre, or be posted, in approximately 10 working days. Someone can pick up the plates on your behalf if they have a digital or paper copy of the tax invoice.

If you're picking up your replacement number plates, you can hand in your old damaged or worn plates.

Plates will only be issued if the vehicle's registration is current.
