Working with Children Check

Motor driving instructors commonly work with people under 18. If you work with children you must have a current Working with Children Check to comply with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Regulations 2019.

You must provide evidence of a current Working with Children Check with your MDI application.

A volunteer Working with Children Check will not be accepted.

Statutory declaration

If you will not be working with children and choose not to obtain a working with children check, you must provide a statutory declaration with your MDI application.

  • If you’re applying online, you will be asked and required to make a declaration in your online application.
  • If you’re applying at a ServiceSA centre, an attested statutory declaration (997.8 KB PDF) must be provided with your Motor Driving Instructor (MDI) application stating that you will not work with children.

Where a statutory declaration is provided with an MDI application and the application is successful, the licence will have a condition applied and printed on it, 'Elected to train adults’.
