Order a bike rack plate

If the rear number plate of your vehicle is obscured by a bike rack, you'll need to fit a bike rack plate to ensure the plate number can be seen clearly.

This is a smaller copy of your existing SA issued number plate and will have black characters on a white reflective background.

You can order a bike rack plate online through EzyPlates.

You'll need your:

  • licence or client number
  • plate number.

Fee: $34

Other ways to order

What happens next

If your plates are posted

  • Your plates should arrive in approximately 15 working days.

Picking up plates from Service SA

  • Plates will be ready to pick up in approximately 10 working days.
  • Someone else can pick up the plates for you, if they have a digital or paper copy of the tax invoice.

How to display a bike rack plate

You'll need to either:

  1. display the bike rack number plate on the rack, or
  2. take the rear number plate off the motor vehicle and attach it to the bicycle rack.

Note: When carrying bikes, your vehicle brake lights must be visible from 200 metres away - under normal weather conditions. If it's not visible from 200 metres, you must attach an additional brake light to the rack.

Don't

You must not:

  • cover the rear number plate of the vehicle.
  • display a standard number plate on both the rear of the vehicle and on a bicycle rack.
  • use homemade number plates.
