Energy discounts and offers from retailers

Households and businesses could be eligible for free or discounted energy updates from energy retailers, who participate in the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS).

Typical activities that are included in the scheme include:

  • installing energy efficient lighting
  • installing water efficient shower head
  • helping  to save on water heating costs.

Eligibility

You don't have to be a customer to access the retailer's energy saving activities. Different retailers have different targets and offer different activities.

REPs activities and providers

You can ask for assistance with more than one activity but can't access the same item again.  For example, if you received a water efficient showerhead for your current address, you won't be eligible for that item again for that address.

Door-to-door REPS offers

People who are offering a REPS activity at your door must show you their identification,  including:

  • name and photo ID
  • provider's full name
  • full name of the company they are representing (including ABN)
  • phone number of that company.

They must give you a written information statement once they have completed the energy activity or audit. The statement must:

  • include the name and contact details of the provider who carried out the audit or activity
  • describe the audit or activity
  • note that the audit or activity meets the retailer's obligations under REPS
  • clearly outline a dispute resolution process.

Priority group referrals

Priority group customers could be eligible for further discounts or offers through the REPS. Members of the South Australian Financial Counsellors Association can refer customers to the priority group if they do not meet other priority group criteria.

Making a complaint

If you have a problem with a REPS provider, the first step is to try to resolve it with them directly.

You could then escalate it to the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA).
