Kangaroo Island Sustainable Futures amendment
The Kangaroo Island Sustainable Futures Development Plan amendment was approved by the Minister for Planning by notice in the South Australian Government Gazette on 19 February 2014.
Purpose of the amendment
The DPA is part of a larger planning project that includes a draft amendment to the Kangaroo Island Plan and the draft Kangaroo Island Structure Plan - Unlocking Opportunities.
The DPA will help achieve key planning directions as set out in the draft Structure Plan and proposes to provide additional opportunities for development linked to tourism, rural industries (including value-adding) and the main gateways (wharfs and airport) onto the island. The island's key scenic, conservation and rural landscapes will be maintained. The DPA does not directly affect existing towns and settlements, aside from the Penneshaw and Kingscote wharf areas.
The community information sheet provides details about the proposed amendment and the amendment process.
Area affected by the amendment
The DPA covers the whole of the Kangaroo Island Council Development Plan.
Consultation on Ministerial DPAs is conducted by the Development Policy Advisory Committee (DPAC), an independent statutory committee which provides advice to the Minister for Planning.
Public consultation on the amendment closed on 11 November 2013. Public meetings were held on 19 November 2013 and 21 November 2013.
