Roxby Downs and Environs amendment

Current status

The Roxby Downs and Environs Development Plan Amendment (DPA) - (8.1 MB PDF) was approved by the Minister for Planning by notice in the South Australian Government Gazette on 11 October 2012.

Purpose of the amendment

The DPA addresses the anticipated demand for housing and temporary workers accommodation and the overall growth of Roxby Downs and its surrounds.

The amendment focuses on zone changes to make more land available for residential and industrial uses in Roxby Downs. Zoning and policy changes also allow for a new village for temporary workers and a new airport, both to be developed at Hiltaba, approximately 16 kilometres east of Roxby Downs on Andamooka Road, midway between Roxby Downs and Andamooka.

Area affected the amendment

The area affected by the DPA is the township of Roxby Downs and a site approximately 16 km from Roxby Downs (Hiltaba).

  • Roxby Downs (Municipality) Development Plan
  • Land Not Within a Council Area – Eyre, Far North, Riverland and Whyalla - Development Plan.

Consultation process

Consultation on Ministerial DPAs is conducted by the Development Policy Advisory Committee (DPAC), an independent statutory committee which provides advice to the Minister for Planning.

Public consultation on the amendment closed on 7 August 2009. Two public meetings were held on 8 September 2009 and 14 September 2009.
