State Records of South Australia is the official custodian for archival records created by state and local government agencies within South Australia.
These records include maps, plans, correspondence, files, volumes, film, photographs and microform. These resources can be used for researching:

- historical events within South Australia
- government policies and programs and their impact on the South Australian community
- history of Aboriginal people in South Australia
- cultural diversity within South Australia

- law enforcement; and
- public employees such as police, teachers and railway workers.
