Food vendors - Prohibited pipe fittings on food vehicles

Certain gas pipe fittings are not allowed on vehicles such as mobile food trucks, vans, trailers and caravans.

There has been an increase in the use of ‘Press fit’ gas fittings in these vehicles, which is prohibited in AS/NZS5601.2:2020 LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes. Press fit fittings can vibrate lose during travel and transportation, causing gas leaks on your installation.

If your jointing system looks like these images, seek advice from a gas fitter and request they change the fitting for a compliant system.

Press fit fittings

These fittings and systems are not suitable for mobile food trucks, vans, trailers and caravans. You can identify them by the thick collar that wraps around each edge.

If your food vehicle has press fit fittings, these will not be accepted as a compliant installation and you risk your gas installation being tagged out of use.

There are other gas fittings that cannot be used on food vehicles. If your fittings do not look like the allowable fitting below, contact a licensed gas fitter for advice.
