Severe weather warning are issued for events that could include one or more of the following:

  • heavy rainfall likely to cause flash flooding
  • damaging winds
  • abnormally high tides likely to cause coastal flooding.

These events are usually of longer duration and can extend over a greater area than severe thunderstorms, which typically are short in duration and extend over a limited area.
