State Emergency Relief Fund

The State Emergency Relief Fund (SERF) can be activated by the Premier if a state disaster or emergency event (eg a bushfire) is declared under the Emergency Management Act 2004.

SERF administers public donations to people and communities who suffer injury, loss or damage as a result of a disaster or emergency event.

The SERF Committee

SERF is administered by the SERF Committee who coordinate public appeals for donations. The committee are responsible for the fair and equitable pay out of all donations received.

The committee is independent of government and bound by directions from His Excellency the Governor of South Australia.

The committee is supported by the Department of Human Services, who provide administrative assistance and absorb all related costs.

Disasters and emergency events

SERF has paid out donated funds to people affected by the:

  • 2005 Eyre Peninsula bushfire
  • 2005 Virginia floods
  • 2006 Gladstone factory explosion
  • 2007 Renmark storm
  • January 2014 bushfire
  • 2015 Sampson Flat bushfire
  • 2015 Pinery Fire
  • SA Bushfires 2019/2020.
