Contact your school for its opening hours because they vary between schools. In most cases they are set by principals in consultation with staff, school boards or school councils.
Outside school hours
Students are under supervision for a short time outside the normal teaching period. This is usually no more than 20 minutes before the school opens and after it closes.
Students should not be on school grounds outside of this time. Exceptions include students who:
- catch school buses
- are involved in out of school hours activities
- attend outside out of school hours care (OSHC) programs.
Check with your school to see if it runs an OSHC program.
Parents who are running late to pick up their child should let the school know as soon as possible.
Trespassing on school grounds
It is an offence for unauthorised people to be on government school grounds between midnight and 7:00 am.
Anyone refusing to leave can be fined $100 for a first offence and $200 for subsequent offences.
If you see someone that you think is trespassing on school grounds phone Crime Stoppers on freecall 1 800 333 000. Your information will be given to SA Police and you can remain anonymous.
