Infectious diseases and exclusion from child care, preschool and school

When children come into contact with or contract an infectious disease or infestation, there is a minimum recommended period they should stay away from school, preschool or child care.

Exclusion period

SA Health has a full list of infectious diseases that may require children or adults to stay at home and recommends if a period for exclusion is required from child care, preschool or school.

Notification of outbreaks

If an outbreak of an infectious disease or infestation occurs at child care, preschool or school, parents will be notified through newsletters, daily bulletins, text messages or other similar means.

  • simple, practical advice for preventing the spread of infectious disease in the home and community.
