Drought-affected farmers can now apply for a rebate to help cover their vehicle registration costs.
If you're a primary producer currently receiving the Commonwealth's Farm Household Allowance (FHA), you may be eligible for a rebate on the registration of up to 3 commercial vehicles registered in your name or your company’s name.
A commercial vehicle includes vehicles registered:
- under a primary producer concession
- as a restricted primary producer vehicle.
Apply online
You can submit one application for a rebate on up to 3 vehicles.
You can't save and return to your application later, so make sure you have everything you need before you start.
Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- receive the FHA between 8 April 2025 and 31 December 2025
- apply between 11 July 2025 and 31 December 2025
- have a vehicle that is either:
- registered with a primary producer concession
- registered as a restricted primary producer vehicle
- be either:
- the registered owner or joint owner of the vehicle
- a beneficiary or director of a trust or company that owns the vehicle (and can provide proof).
What you’ll need
- Contact and vehicle details.
- Bank account details.
- your Centrelink Payment Details document from Services Australia, confirming you are in receipt of the FHA between 8 April 2025 and 31 December 2025. Other document types cannot be accepted.
For instructions on how to get your Centrelink Payment Details document, visit the Services Australia website.
If the vehicle is registered under a company or trust, you'll also need evidence that you are either a beneficiary or director of the trust or company. Provide one of the following:
- A current company extract issued by Australian Securities & Investment Commission (ASIC) (not the company summary), dated within the last 12 months.
- A company statement issued by ASIC, dated within the last 12 months.
- A signed and witnessed section of a Trust Deed confirming you're a beneficiary or director.
What happens next
If your application is approved:
- you'll receive a rebate payment directly into your nominated bank account
- the rebate will cover 12 months of registration for up to 3 eligible vehicles
- payments may take up to 3 weeks to be received from the date your application is approved.
You can use this payment to:
- pay for an upcoming registration renewal
- reimburse registration fees you’ve already paid.
For example - if you recently renewed your semi-trailer for 3 years under restricted primary producer registration, you’ll be reimbursed for 12 months of that fee.
