Conciliation conferences and hearings

Conciliation conference

A confidential meeting can be arranged where the commissioner or delegate will help both parties to reach an agreement. You don’t need to be represented by a lawyer, but you can choose to if you think it’s necessary.

At the conference:

  • you'll be asked to explain the nature and intent of your business
  • the other party will express their concerns
  • the delegate will help you reach an agreement.

At the end of the conference the delegate will either:

  • make a decision on your application
  • ask that you both attend a hearing.

Hearing

More formal than a conciliation conference, a hearing is where all parties put forward evidence for the commissioner or delegate to consider. Then a decision is made.

In special circumstances, the commissioner or delegate could refer your application to the Licensing Court.
