Industry definitions - labour hire licence

Horticulture

Horticultural processing work relates to fruit, vegetables, nuts and flowers and includes:

  • picking
  • harvesting
  • sorting
  • labelling
  • packing
  • grading
  • planting
  • thinning
  • pruning
  • spraying
  • repetitive work on automatic, semi-automatic or single-purpose machines or equipment
  • any other activity identified in the Labour Hire Licensing Regulations 2018
  • basic recording functions related to any of the activities listed above.

Meat processing

Meat processing work includes:

  • boning
  • slicing
  • portioning
  • preparing
  • dressing
  • packing
  • preparations for the killing of animals
  • killing animals
  • any other activity identified in the regulations.

Meat means the whole or part of a killed animal intended for consumption by people or pets, but does not include seafood.

Seafood processing

Seafood processing work includes:

  • fishing
  • filleting
  • shucking
  • cleaning
  • portioning
  • processing
  • grading
  • packing
  • any other activity prescribed by the regulations.

Seafood means the whole or part of an aquatic animal (including freshwater aquatic animals), whether dead or alive, intended for consumption by people or pets.

Cleaning

Cleaning work includes:

  • residential cleaning
  • commercial cleaning - eg cleaning a hotel, office, retail store or at an event.

Trolley collection

Trolley work includes collecting and stacking trolleys for a supermarket, retailer or wholesale shop.
