After getting an assessment from Marine Safety SA, you'll need to get your own independent advice regards the suitability of the mooring and its suitability for your boat.
When applying for a buoy mooring assessment you'll need to meet certain requirements and provide some documentation.

What you'll need
Before completing this application:
- the boat must be registered or surveyed
- if the proposed location of the buoy mooring is within a sanctuary zone of a marine park you'll require a marine park permit.
You must include details about:
- the boat owner
- the boat to be moored
- the proposed mooring including:
- the buoy colour (it mustn't be mistaken for a navigational aid)
- GPS coordinates
- a map or diagram of the area.
What happens next
You'll receive an assessment in the mail within 3 weeks of lodging the application.

If applicable you'll also need to check with your local council as a development application may be required.
Moorings are non-transferable, and it is the owner's responsibility to maintain the mooring. If the mooring is impacting the safety of navigation or property (including other boats) it will be required to be removed or relocated at the owner's expense.
