To assist with the implementation of electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats, South Australian producers can apply for a rebate on the costs of equipment needed to conduct and report property to property (P2P) movements under the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS).
Key dates
Applications close on 30 June 2026 at 5:00 pm or when funding is exhausted, whichever occurs first.
Amounts
Eligible producers can apply for up to 75% of the cost of essential equipment. The rebate amount is determined by the average head movement to your property directly from another property (P2P) over a consecutive 3 year period, either:
- calendar years (2021,2022, 2023 or 2022, 2023, 2024)
- financial years (2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, 2024-25)
- immediate past 3 years.
Based on the average count, you can apply for:
- up to $500 for 100 or less animals annually
- up to $2,000 for 101 to 5,000 animals annually
- up to $20,000 for more than 5,000 animals annually.
For example, if your head movements for the past 3 years were 120 (2021) , 80 (2022), and 100 (2023), then your annual average is 100 animals so you could apply for up to $500.
Who can apply
The rebate is open to South Australian sheep and farmed goat producers who:
- have an active property identification code (PIC)
- have an active NLIS database account linked to their PIC.
You must be able to provide evidence of purchases and recent livestock movement.
The rebate excludes:
- equipment purchased prior to 8 June 2023
- equipment listed as ineligible in section 3 of the guidelines.

You'll need to upload copies of:
- tax invoices
- evidence of payment (for example: bank statements, supplier statements, paid invoices)
- Excel spreadsheet of your NLIS history report 'Summary Livestock Transferred Onto PIC' outlining sheep and farmed goats movement onto property over the past 3 years (2021, 2022 and 2023).

What happens next
You will receive a receipt number upon submitting the online form. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval of a rebate.
Application outcomes will be advised in 4 to 6 weeks.
