Our Four-Way Strategy

Living in the driest state in the driest inhabited continent, South Australians have long been responsible water users. Now, with climate change and the harshest drought on record, the South Australian Government has implemented a four-way strategy to secure water for our future.

Through desalination, recycling wastewater and capturing stormwater; as well as increasing our storage capacity, protecting our water catchments and managing our water use, we’re securing water for our future.

We’ve successfully lobbied the Federal Government for an independent authority to better manage the Murray-Darling Basin.

We have also secured funding for the Murray Futures program to help River Murray communities and improve the health of the river environment.

Work will start this year on a new pipeline network to guarantee water for the Lower Lakes communities.

Environmental work will help the Lakes and the Coorong.

And to relieve the pressure on the Murray, while still guaranteeing Adelaide's water supply, we're building a desalination plant at Port Stanvac.
