Volunteer member-tenant managed providers (housing cooperatives)

Contact the Community Housing Council of SA if you have any questions about the responsibilities of living in volunteer member tenant-managed properties. Below is a list of providers and the locations where they operate, download the maps linked at the bottom of this page to see locations.

You must be both eligible for community housing and suitable for membership of a housing cooperative before completing a Registration of Interest form to lodge your interest in becoming a member of a housing cooperative.

Housing cooperatives are managed by members who are usually also tenants.

Tenants actively participate in running the cooperative by:

  • attending meetings
  • making decisions about how the cooperative operates
  • looking after the properties
  • managing the tenancies.
You must be willing to:
  • attend regular organisation meetings
  • volunteer several hours every week (up to 12) doing tasks on behalf of the organisation
  • accept or be trained to take on an official role in the organisation - eg chairperson, secretary
  • attend training to learn how to manage the organisation
  • respect, listen to and value the opinions of other members.

Common Equity Housing SA Ltd

Common Equity Housing assists its member organisations by undertaking a variety of administrative and property functions on their behalf.

Member organisations continue to maintain a separate legal status, manage their tenancies, day to day activities and other responsibilities.

Member organisations are not required to be registered for the National Regulatory System as Common Equity is the registered body.

Who we house

All enquiries for tenant placements come from the CHCR customer register for each of the member organisations.
