Housing and employment land supply program

The housing and employment land supply program guides the effective management of land supply in South Australia for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.

The program report:

  • monitors the implementation of the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide
  • identifies the total amount of land needed and sets annual rolling targets to reflect changes in the market and changes to the rate of population growth
  • serves to ensure there is land capacity to meet annual housing and employment targets and the capacity is spread equitably across the region
  • helps infrastructure agencies with planning to ensure that infrastructure and urban development is effectively and efficiently coordinated
  • provides a spatial guide to local government to help align regional implementation strategies.

The report also identifies actions that state and local governments can take over a five-year period to implement planning policies and ensure that land supply meets demand and the necessary infrastructure can be provided.

Residential land development activity

The Residential Land Development Activity report provides summary information about activity levels for different stages of the land subdivision process in South Australia. The report includes information at local and state government levels on:

  • proposed allotments in land divisions
  • approved allotments in land divisions
  • completed allotments in land divisions
  • building approvals
  • other summary information including; median lot size, share of infill versus greenfield development.

The report is published six-monthly to coincide with the availability of data for the end of calendar and financial years.

Residential land supply

The Residential Land Supply report (previously called Broadacre Land report) provides information about the amount, ownership and distribution of broadhectare land in residential zones of the Greater Adelaide region and selected rural townships.

The report monitors:

  • the level of supply
  • location and ownership of available broadhectare land in the Greater Adelaide region and selected rural townships
  • current land division applications
  • state government land for release
  • annual broadhectare consumption.

Residential demolition and resubdivision activity in metropolitan Adelaide

The Residential Demolition and Resubdivision Report provides detailed information on the nature, scale and geographic distribution of residential demolitions and resubdivisions in the Adelaide Statistical Division between 2004 and 2010.

The information includes:

  • the level of demolition and resubdivision activity
  • site and dwelling characteristics before and after demolition\resubdivision
  • the net dwelling increase on demolition\resubdivision sites
  • replacement rates on demolition sites
  • previous demolition studies.

The Residential Demolition and Resubdivision Report is accompanied by a fact sheet.

Industrial land database

The industrial land database is a planning tool that provides information on the supply, location and availability of industrial land.

The database primarily covers Greater Adelaide and the transport corridors extending north to Port Wakefield and southeast to Tailem Bend. It lists all industrial sites located in industrial zones, as well as sites with an industrial land use outside the zones.

The industrial information has been entered into a geographical information system (GIS), enabling mapping and spatial analysis of the data. The GIS also allows the industrial database to be integrated with other standard data sets, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics' population and housing census, and other data themes, including cadastral and land ownership information.

The 2008 database package is available for purchase in either MapInfo or ArcMap/ArcView versions for $950 from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. Payment can be made by:

Retail database

The Retail database 2007 contains detailed information about the location, size and activity mix of 18,400 retail outlets throughout metropolitan Adelaide and nearby major townships, including Victor Harbor and Murray Bridge.

It contains information such as:

  • tenant name
  • retailing activity
  • floor space
  • street address
  • centre name
  • council zone.

The database is a planning tool to guide retail policy and assist retailers, investors, business people, planners and developers interested in retailing activity and location analysis.

The database package is available for purchase in either MapInfo or ArcMap/ArcView versions for $950 from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. Payment can be made by:
