On 19 March 2021 a new planning system came into effect across South Australia with all building and planning development applications assessed under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
Ministerial Building Standards will replace existing Minister’s Specifications. They will be amended, as required, to reflect the new system to ensure clear building rules related to South Australian variations under the National Construction Code.
Minister's specifications can still be used when assessing developments lodged under the Development Act 1993:

Building Code Australia (BCA)
On 1 May 2019, the following minister's specifications were amalgamated into BCA 2019:
- SA 3.12.0.1(a) Heating and cooling loads for elevated buildings with a lightweight framed flooring system and transportable buildings
- SA H2.2 Construction of bulk grain storage facilities
- SA H3.2 Concessions for farm buildings (2015 edition)
The following minister's specifications were amalgamated into previous BCA editions:
- SA 76C Protection of buildings exposed to brush fences
- SA F1.7 Waterproofing of wet areas - additional requirements
