Women's health

Health information for women throughout South Australia is provided by the Women's Healthline telephone and email service. The Healthine is open Monday to Friday from 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm:

Screenings

Information about free breast screening can be found on the Breast Screen Australia website. To find out more about cervix screening, including how, when, where and why women should have pap smears is provided by the South Australia Cervix Screening Program.

Sexual health

Sexual health information information including contraception services, pregnancy testing and safe sex advice is available through SHine SA.

Diagnoses and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases is provided by the Royal Adelaide Hospital's Clinic 275.

Sexual reassignment

Check current and previous regulations under the Sexual Reassignment Act. A person who has undergone a reassignment procedure can apply for a recognition certificate although the rules can vary between states.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

A guide to pregnancy, from preparation to birth and beyond, is provided by Children, Youth and Womens Health Service (CYWHS). For more information, phone the Pregnancy SA Infoline on 1300 368 820 - 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Information about breastfeeding is provided by CYWHS and covers:

  • the benefits for mothers
  • the benefits for babies
  • burping
  • weaning.

Rape and sexual assault

Information for people who have been raped or sexually assaulted is provided by Yarrow Place. It doesn't matter if the rape or assault was some time ago or very recent. Yarrow Place can be contacted by:

  • after hours and emergency - 8226 8787.
