Concessions and finances

Concessions and entitlements for seniors

Concessions or discounts are available to older people to help with household and other expenses.

There are a number of concessions available to help South Australians on low or fixed incomes with the cost of household and other expenses.

Catalyst Foundation provides detailed information on concession cards available for seniors and the discounts and concessions applying to each card. Download their Concessions for Seniors information sheet for full details.

Medical heating and cooling

The Medical Heating and Cooling Concession assists South Australians on a fixed or low income who have a clinically verified medical condition which requires the frequent use of heating or cooling in the home to prevent the severe worsening of their condition.

Public transport companion card

Companions of people with permanent and severe disabilities can apply to travel free on Adelaide Metro buses, trains and trams using the Plus-one-free companion card.

Interstate public transport

Seniors Card members living anywhere in Australia can take advantage of concessional public transport fares in the state or territory they are visiting. This means holders of a South Australian Seniors Card can access concessional public transport offered to Seniors Card holders of other states or territories (some exclusions apply).

Visiting NSW – apply for an Opal card two weeks prior to travel

Seniors Card members wanting concessions on public transport when visiting NSW need to apply for the Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card two weeks before you need to travel. For more information including how to apply, visit www.opal.com.au.
