Apprenticeships and traineeships include a probationary period after which the training contract can be terminated only with the agreement of all parties.
Probationary period
All training contracts include a probationary period. This period varies according to the length of the apprenticeship or traineeship.
During the probationary period either party can withdraw from the contract but must inform the Department for Innovation.
An apprentice or a trainee cannot be dismissed once the probationary period has expired. The training contract can be transferred, suspended, terminated or varied with the agreement of all parties.
