Horticulture traineeships
The Department of Water and Environment (DEW) recruits horticultural trainees to undertake a three-year traineeship in horticulture. The traineeship combines on-the-job training at the three Botanic Gardens of South Australia sites (Adelaide CBD, Mt Lofty and Wittunga) with regular attendance at off-the-job training towards achieving a Certificate III in Horticulture through a registered training organisation.
These traineeship opportunities are advertised through I work for SA.
Selection criteria include:
- satisfactory completion of the requirements of the SA Certificate of Education (SACE) stage 1, or equivalent
- a current driver's license with the ability to competently drive a manual vehicle
- a minimum two weeks' formal work experience placement in amenity horticulture at an appropriate establishment is desirable, along with a demonstrated passion for horticulture
- Certificate III in Horticulture, with a focus on plantsmanship, sustainable urban landscapes and plant conservation.
