Financial support

Income support is available if you're looking for work and taking part in activities that may increase your chances of finding a job. Visit the Centrelink website.

Child care information

For help to find suitable child care visit the Department for Education website - find and select a childcare service.

Centrelink offers a range of financial assistance to help with the cost of child care. Visit assistance with child care fees on the Human Services website.

Professional associations

If you have a professional qualification it's possible your professional association offers a jobs vacancy database. Check if your professional association website offers this service. Visit the Australian Professional Organisations, Associations and Societies website to find your organisation.

Other organisations offer job search for their industry and could be found by searching for your desired industry.

Aboriginal Access Centres

Help is available with working out what training or education you need to get the job you want. Aboriginal Access Centres can help with case management, tutorial assistance and e-learning resources and are located in more than a dozen TAFE SA metropolitan and regional campuses. Contact your nearest Aboriginal Access Centre at TAFE SA.

Horticulture traineeships

The Department of Water and Environment (DEW) recruits horticultural trainees to undertake a three-year traineeship in horticulture. The traineeship combines on-the-job training at the three Botanic Gardens of South Australia sites (Adelaide CBD, Mt Lofty and Wittunga) with regular attendance at off-the-job training towards achieving a Certificate III in Horticulture through a registered training organisation.

These traineeship opportunities are advertised through I work for SA.

Selection criteria include:

  • satisfactory completion of the requirements of the SA Certificate of Education (SACE) stage 1, or equivalent
  • a current driver's license with the ability to competently drive a manual vehicle
  • a minimum two weeks' formal work experience placement in amenity horticulture at an appropriate establishment is desirable, along with a demonstrated passion for horticulture
  • Certificate III in Horticulture, with a focus on plantsmanship, sustainable urban landscapes and plant conservation.
