Aboriginal languages

Most of the estimated 250 Australian languages and 600 to 700 dialects are represented in the AIATSIS language holdings.

Aboriginal people and government

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet is the South Australian Government’s lead agency on Aboriginal affairs, providing engagement, support and advice for Aboriginal people and government. View their resources and publications.

Bringing them home is a resource for students and teachers following the national inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Defining moments

The National Museum of Australia has information and resources in the defining moments of Aboriginal history including:

  • National apology to the stolen generation
  • Uluru statement from the heart
  • Mabo decision
  • Myall Creek massacre.

Family history

AIATASS have a range of resources to assist with  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family history research.

Koori Mail

Koori Mail is Australia's fortnightly national indigenous newspaper with the latest Aboriginal news. Students and members of the community can read and submit stories.

Libraries and museums

Aboriginal culture at the Australian Museum

The Australian Museum has information on Aboriginal culture as well as other cultures, and includes stories of the Dreaming and background on indigenous communities in Australia.

State Library of South Australia

The State Library of South Australia gives background on Aboriginal culture and history, information on the library's research and advice services, resource materials and links to external Aboriginal sites.

State Records of South Australia

State Records of South Australia has an extensive database for indigenous Australians covering areas such as Aboriginal history, government reports and policies.
