Heavy vehicle permit fees

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) has resumed the processing and issue of oversize/overmass (Class 1) and special purpose vehicle (SPV) and Class 3 vehicle permits under a delegated arrangement from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) for routes entirely within South Australia (SA).

To determine which vehicle class your heavy vehicle falls under, visit heavy vehicle access.

These fees are effective from 1 July 2017.

Heavy vehicle permit fees Fee
Permit application (issue or renewal) $72.00
Plus an additional fee payable to the road manager for a route assessment to decide whether or not to give consent for a mass or dimension exemption.
Costs may include:
  • vehicle inspection at other than a DPTI site
  • route inspection or survey, bridge or culvert assessment, conditions applicable to the permit
  • costs of other actions as identified.

This fee will be the estimated cost of providing the assessment. You will be advised of the amount and it must be paid prior to the assessment
