Operating a heavy vehicle

Low loaders

Operators and drivers of oversize and overmass prime movers and low loader combinations are required to carry the specified Gazette Notice in the vehicle when operating on South Australian roads.

Vehicle type Gazette notice
Low loaders up to 23 metres with a gross combination mass of up to 42.5 tonnes Gazette Notice for 23 metre prime mover and low loader vehicle (20.4 KB PDF)
Low loader exceeding 19 metres with a gross mass combination of 49.5 tonnes Gazette Notice for 49.5 tonne prime mover and low loader vehicles (19.8 KB PDF)
Low loaders up to 25 metres with a gross combination mass up to 59.5 tonnes Gazette Notice for 59.5 tonne prime mover and low loader vehicles (23.9 KB PDF)

Code of practice

Operators and drivers must comply with the applicable code of practice:

Code of Practice for 42.5 tonne low loaders (285.9 KB PDF)

Code of Practice for 49.5 tonne low loaders (180.3 KB PDF)

Code of Practice for 59.5 tonne low loaders (734.5 KB PDF).

Approved routes

Immediately prior to any journey drivers must determine the approved route via the RAVnet online map system.

Note: Route maps do not need to be carried within the vehicle in South Australia.

If your operating requirements cannot be met by a Gazette Notice, you will need to apply to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) for an oversize overmass heavy vehicle permit.
