Finding and keeping a job

There are many programs and services available to help you find, apply for and keep a job, many of these are free.

JobAccess has information for employees and job seekers plus general information on disability and work.

Disability Employment Services can help you look and prepare for work and can continue helping you in the workplace for some time after you get a job.

The Work Assist scheme can help if you are at risk of losing your job because you are ill, injured, or have a disability.

Public service careers

Disability WORKS Australia manages the Disability Employment Register, which assists people with disability who would like to work in the South Australian public service or other large agencies.

Australian Public Service Commission has a range of programs to recruit and support people with disability.

Australian public service jobs are advertised on the APS jobs website.

SA public service jobs are advertised on I Work for SA.

Self-employment

Being self-employed means that you are responsible for running your own business.

If you are self-employed, you may be entitled to support and services.

A Community Living Project (CLP) Micro Enterprise Project can support you to start your own small business.

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme is an Australian Government initiative that helps eligible unemployed people start and run their own small business.

Other employment options

Supported employment offered by Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) are generally not-for-profit organisations providing supported employment opportunities to people with disability.

Workplace assistance

JobAccess provides assistance to employers and employees through the Employment Assistance Fund which may pay for modifying a workplace or purchasing special or adaptive equipment.

  • financial help and wages
  • recruitment
  • supporting and retaining staff
  • employer toolkits.

Disability Employment Australia providers have free services to employers of people with disability.
