When services beyond simple legal advice are needed, you must apply for legal aid. A grant of legal aid means we will pay a lawyer to act for you. However, we will require you to make a contribution towards your legal costs depending on how much you can reasonably afford to pay.

The National Children's and Youth Law Centre provides the youth with advice and information about their legal rights and responsibilities, advocates for them when their rights or interests are threatened, takes on test cases to clarify or advance children's legal rights, presses for changes in the law, procedures and practices to better protect children from abuse and oppression, promotes the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, argues for greater opportunities for children and young people to participate in decision making.

The Legal Services Commission is jointly funded by both the South Australian and the Commonwealth Governments. It was established in 1977 to increase access to legal services for those people who cannot afford to pay for private legal representation.
